Ikea DVD Storage Stand
In a recent shopping trip to my local Ikea store I found that they sell some excellent DVD stands and other accessories. They have a brand called Benno and they are called a DVD tower. Like most idea product, these DVD stands come in a flat box and you assemble them at home. I have always found that most Ikea products, while they look cheap sometimes, are actually very durable. Most of their products are made with particleboard, foil (for color) and ABS plastic.
I found that they have several different sizes. The most common (and colorful) DVD stands were $39.99-$49.99 and held 180 CDs, 88 DVDs or 40 video cassettes. The shelves are adjustable and the unit stands almost 80″ tall, but only 8″ wide. Because of this tall size, they do recommend that you secure it to the wall with the anti-topped device for safety (which is included). This DVD stand comes in several colors including red, blue, medium brown, silver, black and several others. It will work great where space is at a premium or buy 2 and use them to put on either side of a bookcase or your entertainment center. Ikea makes several full entertainment centers in the same colors that where these Ikea DVD rack would look like it was made as a set!
The Benno also comes in a double width model that is almost 16″ wide. Surprisingly, it is only $5-$10 more than its smaller brother. Worth the extra cash in my book as it doubles capacity to over 160 DVDs. You can order doors to make this a cabinet more than a shelf.
There is also a larger version of the Benno, Ikea DVD Storage unit, called the Billy. These shelves come in many different designs with corners, multiple heights and range in width from 3′ to almost 8′ wide. The smaller units are color coordinated and styled the same to complement the Benno. So you can really put together a complete room worth of shelves and feel confident that they will all match. These Ikea DVD rack units sell for around $185-$300, depending upon the configuration. In fact, the Billy can be configured into a 12′ long entertainment center with TV stand for around $475.
If you are looking for a DVD cabinet with glass doors, Ikea doesn’t sell one out of the box. You actually have to buy a Billy or Benno and then add the ala carte doors to make it a cabinet. This really pretty simple as all their products are built around a couple screws. You put them all together in a couple minutes with the included wrench. If you have an Ikea near you, check out their selection of DVD cabinets.
